Team Plasma Grunts are members of Team Plasma who battle who appear in both games in Generation V. They strive for the liberation of all Pokémon... at least most of them do. They are N's main workers, who steal others' Pokémon in order to liberate them later. It is shown that, however they also use stolen Pokémon in battle, which is hypocritical to the purpose for which they intended to steal them from their original owners, which was to free them from human influence.
There are both male and female versions of the grunts. In Pokémon Black and White, they wear Medieval knight-styled outfits, whereas in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, they go for a much more menacing appearance, with slick black suits with the Team Plasma logo emblazoned on their vests. They also wear hats, which appear to feature a modified Jolly Roger symbol.
Pokémon Black and White[]
In Pokémon Black and White, Team Plasma Grunts first appear in Accumula Town along with Ghetsis, who explains Team Plasma's goal of liberating Pokémon who are kept by Pokémon trainers. If Pokémon are not released by their trainers voluntarily, the grunts will instead steal them directly and use them for battle. They are somewhat hypocritical, as they do you some of the Pokémon they have stolen for battle, although they believe it is for the greater cause.
Some of Team Plasma, however, do not care for Pokémon whatsoever, simply thinking of them as tools. (not including Ghetsis, who simply wanted Pokémon to be released so that the public would have no viable means of retaliation when he was to take over the world) In fact, a Team Plasma Grunt who resides within N's Castle mentions that the castle was built by overworking captured Pokémon.
In battle, they typically use the Patrat, Purrloin, Trubbish, Scraggy, and Sandile lines. This negatively affects their battle performance as these are common and rather weak Pokémon.
Pokémon Black 2 and White 2[]
In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Team Plasma has reformed 2 years after the events of Pokémon Black and White, this time with Ghetsis, Zinzolin, and Colress as their acknowledged leaders. Now, their goal is much clearer. They will steal the Pokémon trainers and use them to conquer a world in which the population is defenseless. This time, they use a larger variety of Pokémon, mainly consisting of Poison and Dark Pokémon.
Some Team Plasma Grunts still swear loyalty to N and dedicate their lives to taking care of the Pokémon that they could not find the owners of. They can be found along with Rood of the Seven Sages in Driftveil City.
